         Madhya Pradesh state (M.P.) was created in 1956 by merging several small states viz, Madhya Pradesh, Vindhya Pradesh, part of Vidarbha & Mahakoshal, Bhopal State and other small states in the November 2000 , MP Chhatisgarh was created as a part of MP.

M.P is situated in the centre of the Country and has state boundaries with Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Utter Pradesh and Chhatisgarh. The State is land – locked and at no point is the sea less than 300 km away.
Chambal, Betwa, Sindh, Dhasan, Ken, Paisuni and Baghian rivers join the Yamuna river and are the sub-basins for Yamuna Basin, which itself falls under the Ganga Basin. Sone and Tapti rivers join the Ganga river directly and therefore, are the sub-basins to Ganga Basin.
